Flood and storm warnings run from Ohio to the Aleutians as Polo hits Category 5 offshore

Good morning. Weather is where your shift will feel the day first. The National Weather Service has flood warnings in force for Pike and Scioto counties in Ohio (NWS Wilmington) and for Calhoun County, Illinois with Pike and Lincoln counties, Missouri (NWS St Louis) — plan for water rescue readiness and route closures in those counties. Far to the northwest, NWS Anchorage has storm warnings up for the Bering side from Kiska to Attu and Adak to Kiska, and for the Bering Sea offshore between 171W and 180 north of 56N.

Offshore, Cleveland.com reports Hurricane Polo has become an "extremely dangerous" Category 5 with another hurricane forming behind it. The Los Angeles Times, citing the National Hurricane Center, reports Polo is expected to bring heavy rain to southwestern Mexico with limited impacts to California — watch the coast, but the NHC does not have a major California hit on the board.

Fire: reports of a disaster striking crews helping battle a growing Yosemite wildfire in California are circulating but are not confirmed by any agency. Likewise, satellite fire detections reported across the South — 72 over Mississippi, 64 over Louisiana, 44 over Arkansas, 32 over South Carolina and 27 over Tennessee — are unconfirmed by any agency and are detections, not confirmed incidents. Treat them as tasking to verify, not as active scenes.
