Hurricane Isaias closes on the Gulf Coast as Florida panhandle counties go under Hurricane and Storm Surge Warnings

Good morning. Weather is the shift driver. The National Weather Service / National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Isaias is approaching the Gulf Coast, with the remnants of Rachel set to impact the Southwest U.S. NWS Tallahassee has issued Hurricane Warnings (extreme) for Coastal Bay and for St. Andrews Bay waterways and the coastal and offshore waters from the Okaloosa-Walton county line to Mexico Beach, and Storm Surge Warnings (extreme) for Coastal Dixie, South Walton, Coastal Taylor and Coastal Franklin. If you cover the panhandle, treat those as live. Further north, NJ.com reports the National Weather Service still has Isaias remnants on track to bring heavy rain to New Jersey. Fire. The New York Post reports a fast-moving wildfire — the Danny Fire — shut down a major California freeway at the I-5 Grapevine amid evacuation warnings; the cause is not immediately known, and a response is under way. Separately, the Los Angeles Fire Department said four firefighters suffered concussion-type injuries and minor burns in a fire following a reported freon leak and small explosion at a Silver Lake home on Wednesday, per Firefighter Close Calls.

Law enforcement and EMS. The NYPD says federal agents shot a person in New York City on Thursday; the person was conscious and taken to a hospital, and the NYPD did not specify which agency fired, according to The Guardian. NBC News reports the shooter was ICE officers, citing three law enforcement sources; Fox News places it in the Marble Hill area and says one person was hospitalized, per the NYPD. In Commerce, the Los Angeles Times reports one person was killed Thursday morning after a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy set off a chain-reaction collision, according to authorities. The Tampa Bay Times reports a Pasco juvenile detention officer was arrested for sexually battering a girl after her release, deputies say. Cleveland.com reports Akron police identified a person of interest and recovered the suspect vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian struck on Sept. 26. CBS News reports a 16-year-old girl died Saturday morning near St. Louis, and her family is demanding to know why it took days to learn how she died. On procurement, Route Fifty reports the Southaven, Mississippi police department took millions from Musk-backed companies, seeking drones and Flock cameras.
